Former Cal Poly track and field star Shelby Daniele suddenly passed away on Wednesday at the age of just 23.
The news comes just months after she celebrated receiving her master’s degree from the university.
Daniele broke Cal Poly’s indoor 200m record last year with a time of just 24.69 seconds and ended up competing for the Mustangs for nearly five years between the years 2020 and 2024.
During this time, she worked at the California Polytechnic State University and earned fame as a talented sprinter who had brains and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in agriculture in the year 2023.
This was right before she went on to secure her master’s degree in the month of June. Three months later, her university announced that she had tragically died.
They released a statement on this front including how they were so saddened to learn about her death and how she will always be remembered for her incredible talent and stamina, not to mention her beautiful smile and loving and warm personality.
“She was truly one of a kind and it’s hard to find others like that in this world”- the statement went on to read. Condolences were sent to her family during this difficult period while the exact cause of death is yet to be revealed.
