Tourist Dies and Another Two Go Missing as Ice Cave Collapses on Visitors at Popular Glacier

One foreign tourist tragically passed away while two of his remaining team members are still missing in Iceland.

 

The incident arose when a giant ice cave suddenly collapsed right above their heads in the southeast part of Iceland as their tour group was visiting the vicinity.

Emergency responders were quick to speak about a call made at about 3 pm local time as a group of 25 tourists embarked on their journey with a tour guide.

They were believed to be exploring the Breidamerkurjokull region when all of a sudden they were met with this untimely incident.

The police have confirmed that four people got stuck beneath the ice cave and one was confirmed dead. Now, two remain trapped and one was declared as seriously injured but in a stable condition.

The search for the remaining individuals continues. Today, the search was called off as it was too dark and difficult to work in but rescuers hope to find them when they next embark at the break of dawn.
