Almost two weeks after 71-year-old Miguel Hung mysteriously disappeared after he left his home in Raleigh, North Carolina, his body has been found. The sad news, which was confirmed by police officials and Miguel’s family, comes after the doting grandfather went missing sometime between the night of August 9 and the next morning.
According to a media outlet, Miguel, who was a retired car salesman, left his house in his wife Pamela Hung’s silver Mercedes. He did not take his wallet or his cell phone with him.
On Tuesday, August 20, Raleigh Police Department officials revealed that Miguel had been found dead around 3:55 a.m. local time approximately five miles away from his home.
While no further details were shared concerning Miguel’s demise, officers did confirm that there were “no suspicious circumstances” surrounding his passing.
Amid this time of immense grief, the late patriarch’s family has expressed great gratitude for the outpouring of condolences, love, and support they have received thus far.
Speaking on the matter, Miguel’s son, Mike Hung, divulged, “Sometimes you find beauty in the world. Family and friends reaching out, sharing stories, it definitely helps the healing.”
Decades before he passed away, Miguel was determined to forge a better life by immigrating from Cuba to the United States when he was just 14 years old. Unfortunately, recent years saw him experience a myriad of health issues, including mental health issues following a 2019 heart attack and bypass surgery.
In 2021, Miguel suffered a stroke and afterward, began dealing with some aphasia. Mike disclosed that his late father’s health problems “put a pretty big cloud over him and he struggled with that the last few years.”
Despite this, though, Miguel’s kind and empathetic nature never wavered, as Mike described his dad as someone who always wanted to help other people. Miguel was also big on family and friends, always ensuring he made time to spend moments with those he loved.
Recalling fond memories of his dad when he was growing up, Mike shared, “He never missed a soccer game.” Miguel was also a favorite among Mike and his sibling’s former childhood teammates who dubbed him their “favorite soccer dad.” “My dad was an incredible guy,” gushed Mike.
Miguel, who Mike called “the life of the party” was also an amazing grandfather to five grandchildren. “He was looking forward to his retirement and spending time with his family and traveling,” Mike stated before Miguel’s death was confirmed.
Weeks before Miguel was found dead, his doting wife of 45 years took to Facebook to alert the public that he had gone missing. In her statement, she also revealed that Miguel had been suffering from depression in addition to his aphasia.
